The Norman P. Salzman Memorial Award
9th Annual (2007) Symposium Announcement
The Norman
P. Salzman Memorial Award in
Virology is given annually to an
outstanding post-doctoral fellow or
research trainee working in virology
research at the National Institutes
of Health (NIH), Center for
Biologics Evaluation and Research (CBER),
or the Science Applications
International Corporation (SAIC)
Frederick Cancer Research and
Development Center. To
become eligible, candidates must
conduct research under the tutelage
of a scientist at a NIH, CBER, or
SAIC laboratory and have obtained
their professional degree after
November 15, 2001.
Past recipients have
been recognized for their work
in three-dimensional architecture of
asymmetric viruses by electron cryo-tomography,
pathogenesis of Aleutian mink
disease parvovirus, and the prions
and viruses in the yeast
Saccharomyces cerevisiae, among
other topics.
The
winning fellow receives an
award of $2,500. Award
selection is based on the importance
of the applicant's
research contribution to the field
of basic virology, with special
emphasis on the creativity and the
rigor with which the research has
been performed. Previous applicants
are encouraged, if eligible, to
update their applications and
resubmit the information for
consideration. The award winner is
expected to give a
20 minute presentation based on the
award-winning abstract.
